Mr. Lynn E. Elfner (botany) received his B.S. in 1967 and his M.S. in 1971 from The Ohio State University. He has served as Chief Executive Officer, Ohio Academy of Science, Columbus, Ohio, since 1975. Previously he was with the Mt. Orab Local School District, Ohio State University, Ohio Environmental Council, and Ohio Office of Budget and Management.

Mr. Elfner is a Fellow of AAAS and has receive many awards, including the Ohioana Book Award, Ohioana Library Association, 1980; Distinguished Service Award, National Association of Academies of Science, 1981; Distinguished Alumni Award, OSU College of Agriculture, 1984; Honorary 100 from Ohio in Natural Resources, 1987; Centennial honoree, OSU Herbarium, 1992; OSU, and Friend of Science Award, Science Education Council of Ohio, 1998; President's Award, Ohio Alliance for the Environment, 2003, and President's Award from Ohio School Boards Association, 2004.

Current activities include: Archivist and Board of Directors, National Association of Academies of Science; councilor, Ohio State Chapter, Sigma Xi; ex officio member, Board of Trustees, OAS; Board of Directors, ex officio alternate member, Board of Trustees, Ohio Historical Society. His activities with the AAAS include: Electorate Nominating Committee, Section on General Interest in Science and Engineering (Y), 1994-97; OAS representative to the Section Y Committee, 1997–; member-at-large of the Section Y Committee, 1998-2002.
