Board of Directors
Linda
Gojak spent 28 years teaching mathematics at the elementary and middle
school levels. In addition to her teaching responsibilities she chaired
the K-8 mathematics department at Hawken School where she spent most of
my teaching career. Responsibilities included professional development
for K-8 teachers, curricula selection and development, parent education
and working with the high school mathematics department and chair.
For the past six years Gojak has directed the Center for Mathematics and
Science Education, Teaching, and Technology at John Carroll University.
This center, unique to northeastern Ohio, offers a variety of
professional development opportunities for K-12 mathematics and science
teachers. The Center is currently partnering with the Cleveland
Municipal School District, Cleveland State University and Case Western
Reserve University on an NSF funded MSP grant. Its role in this project
has been to begin a new Master's of Arts program at John Carroll in
Middle School Mathematics or Science Teaching. This program is designed
for teachers who currently hold K-8 certification as generalists and
enables these teachers to become licensed as middle school mathematics
or science specialists. The Center also partners with the same group and
several other high needs districts in the area to provide extensive
subject focused professional development in mathematics or science for
teachers of grades 3-6. Over the past 6 years, they have also been
involved with the Eisenhower program, Improving Teacher Quality and
projects funded by private foundations.
Gojak has been an active member of the Greater Cleveland Council of
Teachers of Mathematics serving as a director and President of that
organization. She has served as vice president and president of the Ohio
Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She has been on the Board of
Directors of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the
Mathematical Sciences Education Board. She served as vice-president and
president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics and is
currently past president of that organization. She has received the
Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching and the
Christofferson Fawcett award for leadership in the state of Ohio. She
has brought both CPAM and NCSM to the membership of the Triangle
Coalition and has attended all of the Triangle Coalition's Legislative
Conferences.
