Technology Education 

This section of the website relates to the concern that the Triangle Coalition has for supporting and improving Technology Education in the schools.  Technology, as we define it, is the use of human innovation in solving technical problems.  The resources available from the organizations listed here should help technology teachers instill in their students the ability to use innovative approaches when solving simple technical problems.

Academy of Applied Science (AAS)
AAS is a nonprofit organization that promotes creativity, invention and scientific achievement. It is an educational resource center offering enrichment programs for students and teachers.

American Chemical Society (ACS)
ACS, the world's largest scientific society, publishes materials for pre-college science students.
Grade Levels: 4-12
Resources: publications of magazines, texts that emphasizes the role of chemistry in everyone's life.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) 
ASME's pre-college education activities help teachers and engineers strengthen the technological literacy of young people.
Grade Levels: K-12

Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE)
ACTE offers a wide variety of resources for teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents.

Council on Technology Teacher Education (CTTE)
CTTE provides educational leadership opportunities for its members; stimulates research and scholarship related to the profession; and supports the ideals of technology teacher education.

(The) Einstein Project
The Einstein Project is a nonprofit corporation that is dedicated to improving the quality of science, mathematics and technology education for K-12 students in Wisconsin.

Electronic Industries Foundation
EIF is dedicated to developing tomorrow's technology leaders by introducing young people to the innovation and excitement of the electronic industries.
Grade Levels:  middle and high school students, educators
Resources:  TechXtra, published online monthly, September through May, offers up-to-the-minute information on new technologies, explains the underlying science, and profiles the technical experts and leaders who make it happen.  Electronic Industries also sponsors TechXplore, an online technology mentoring program and competition.

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST)
FIRST has established robotics competitions for junior and senior high school. youth and a network of tournaments called the FIRST Lego League

Future Scientists and Engineers of America (FSEA)
FSEA is a national non-profit organization that provides the structure, project material, documentation and workshop training to establish after-school technology clubs in K-12 schools.

Innovation Curriculum Online Network
ICON is the International Technology Education Association's (ITEA) standards-based national digital library for technological literacy. ITEA is partnering with the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC) on this NSF-supported project. ICON is a collection of carefully selected standards-based resources that enhance the teaching of technology.

Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE)
IEEE's Pre-college Education Committee coordinates programs/projects and serves as a liaison to other organizations that have interests in pre-college education.

International Technology Education Association (ITEA)
ITEA is the professional association for technology educators. ITEA establishes standards for technology education, conducts ongoing Technology for All Americans project, and leads Professional development through the Center to Advance the Teaching of Technology and Science (CATTS).

JETS
JETS serves over 30,000 students and 2,000 teachers, and holds programs on 150 college campuses each year.  JETS promotes interest in engineering, science, mathematics, and technology.

Journal of Technology Education
The Journal of Technology Education is a biannual publication that focuses on scholarly discussion of research, philosophy and theory of technology education.  Includes book reviews.

KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR)
A non-profit organization that works with all ages to provide improved learning and skills development through the application of technology, particularly robotics.
Grades: 6-12; professional

The Learning Institute of Technology Education (LITE)
A nonprofit Michigan corporation dedicated to assist in the integration of technology education into the school curriculum.
Grades: K-12

National Academy of Engineering: TECHNICALLY SPEAKING
This website explains what technological literacy is, why it's important, and what's being done to improve it.  In addition to other materials, the site provides links to a growing collection of online, print, and other resources dealing with technological literacy.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
NASA offers enrichment and study opportunities for students and educators.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
NREL's Office of Education Programs serves the
education and research missions of NREL and DOE with
pre-college, undergraduate and teacher programs and
university partnerships.

Project Lead The Way
PLTW is a not-for-profit organization partnering with 500+ schools in 32+ states, with organizations in the private sector and with 12+ higher education institutions to prepare an increasing and more diverse group of students to be successful in engineering and engineering technology.

Technology Student Association (TSA)
TSA is an organization of students interested in technology.  Assisting them is a support system of educators, alumni, parents, and business leaders who believe in the importance of a technologically literate society.
