Carol
is working in the NSF in the Division of Elementary Secondary and
Informal Education (ESIE). She works mainly in the Teacher Professional
Continuum (TPC).
Carol reviewed 16 ITEST preliminary proposals. She has done three ad-hoc
reviews for the Instructional Materials development (IMD) program and
sat in on the panel discussions of the proposals that she reviewed. She
also contributed to the ESIE Annual report; she wrote the "Publications"
section. Carol has also been working on the Presidential Award for
Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) program and has
presented at NSTA regional and national conferences on the program. She
created a 70-slide power point presentation to use at conferences. She
presented on the PAEMST Program at NCTM, Baltimore; NSTA, Indianapolis;
NSTA, Seattle; and at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native
Americans in Science (SACNAS) conference. Carol Participated in the
PAEMST Research Roundtable conducted by ESI and NSF.
She is working with other Einstein Fellows and with the Department of
Education Excellence in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics
Education (ESTEME) Week.
She has given presentations to NSF ESIE Division and has received some
additional projects from program officers that attended the
presentation.
When asked what she finds most rewarding about the fellowship experience
so far, Carol responded: "Being asked to do the reviews for the IMD
panel, they value the educator's input. Working with an IMD program
officer to research funded proposals dealing with GIS programs (one of
my areas of interest) and creating a document on funded projects called
the IMD Highlights at the request of Jean Vanski."
