Biography
Cherlyn Anderson is an eighth grade science teacher from Sandhills
Middle School in Gaston, South Carolina. A National Board certified
science teacher, Mrs. Anderson has been teaching in various capacities
for 28 years. She has been an eighth grade science teacher at Sandhills
MS for the last six, during which time she has served as facilitator for
the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship Science and Literacy Study Group for
the school district's 3-8th grade science teachers. She has also served
as the Instructional Technology Coordinator for the district, acted as a
mentor teacher to new faculty and even taught Language Arts and South
Carolina History.
A state leader in the adoption of education technology, Mrs. Anderson
spent the 1998-99 school year as the Milken Educator On-Loan to the SC
Department of Education's Office of Technology, where she provided
technical assistance to schools around the state by giving professional
development workshops on technology integration, curriculum development,
assessments, and grant writing.
Cherlyn Anderson has been recognized with many professional honors,
including the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award, and an
Eleanor Roosevelt Teacher Fellowship for an all girls math and science
program. She is also a NASA Honors Teacher and has participated in two
Spaceward Bound expeditions to the Atacama Desert in Chile and the
Mojave Desert in California. She was recognized by the South Carolina
House of Representatives in a 1998 Proclamation of Honor. She has a
degree in elementary education from The University of South Carolina
(Coastal.)
