Biography
Kathleen Gorski is a Master Science Teacher and Dean of Academic Affairs
at The Nativity School of Worcester in Worcester, Massachusetts. An
industrial chemist by training, Kathy Gorski switched careers in 1998
and has been teaching middle school science for the past nine years, the
last four of which she has spent helping to found The Nativity School, a
middle school for inner-city boys living in the vulnerable neighborhoods
of Worcester, MA. As Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Gorski created and
deepened the entire school curriculum and established inquiry-based
programs in math and science. She also directs the school's summer
camps, administers the school's technology and organizes professional
development for her fellow teachers. On top of that, she teaches three
science classes each semester.
"Science is a verb," Dr. Gorski said. She wants her students to be eager
to learn new things, and the best way to make them eager is to truly
engage them in the material. She doesn't lecture very often. She's
excited to bring her skills and talents to DC to help advance science
education in this country. Dr. Gorski holds a Bachelor's in chemistry
and education from Western New England College and earned a Ph.D. in
chemistry from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is an
active member of many professional organizations, and has many
publications to her name, both chemical and educational.
